Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as Propane Autogas, is a mixture of hydrocarbon gases, most commonly propane and butane. Instead of relying on imported oil, approximately 90% of the United States propane supply is produced domestically. 70% of the remaining supply is imported from Canada and Mexico. What’s more, propane is non-toxic and cannot get into the water table if there is a storage container leak. Economically, propane is an effective alternative to conventional transportation fuels when considering capital cost, operation, and maintenance.
Propane Autogas is already the third most widely used engine fuel behind gasoline and diesel, due largely in part to an existing national infrastructure. Thousands of refueling stations, an established distribution process, and more than 2,500 public propane locations make LPG readily available throughout the United States. These fueling stations are present in every state and more keep popping up, making refueling as convenient as ever. In addition, installation of on-site dispensing is easy and affordable for fleets across the country.
There are two options for LPG refueling: skid-mount and permanent stations. With skid-mount, aboveground refueling stations typically come pre-assembled and are inexpensive to install. Permanent stations, on the other hand, feature a fixed tank system stored underground. Both options have dispensers for ease of use, similar to gasoline refueling. For your commercial fleet, there are several federal and state tax incentives promoting the installation of new propane fueling structures and using liquefied petroleum gas exclusively.
With LPG your fleet will experience unchanged power, acceleration, payload, and cruise speeds due to aperformance equivalent to gasoline fueled vehicles. Propane Autogas also has a high octane rating of 104, which is in-between CNG (130) and unleaded gasoline (87). From an efficiency standpoint, LPG burns with very minimal combustion emissions, reducing carbon and sulfur dispersions. Maintenance wise, several fleets have reported prolonged commercial fleet service lives 2 – 3 years longer than gasoline, as well as extended intervals.
Propane Autogas contains fewer BTUs than gasoline, resulting in 27% less energy usage when compared to one gallon of crude oil. Fewer miles on a tank of fuel may also be factored in determining which alternative fuel best improves your fleet operations.
South Bay Ford is excited to team up with ROUSH CleanTech to fulfill all of your liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) needs. As an authorized ROUSH CleanTech Ford Dealership, we make the process easy: just order your vehicle with a gaseous fuel prep package and include the ROUSH CleanTech ship-thru code. You also have the choice of retrofitting previous model year vehicles. Please contact us for more information.
With Propane Autogas your operating costs are substantially reduced, lowering your bottom line. Managers who have already made the switch are finding that they can lower their fuel costs by 30 to 40 percent when compared to gasoline, along with less maintenance fees. Not only will your operating costs improve dramatically, they will come without sacrificing performance. A Ford vehicle equipped with the ROUSH CleanTech LPG fuel system delivers the same horsepower, torque, and towing capacity as a gasoline-powered one. ROUSH also promises consistency and reliability through inclement weather and changes in altitude, which means your propane will always stop and start. By keeping your factory warranty intact, ROUSH CleanTech fuel systems can be serviced at South Bay Ford as we provide the diagnostic equipment that complies with ROUSH’s uncompromising standards.
ROUSH has engineered a system designed to fit within the same mounting points of the original vehicle’s gasoline system, making the switch to alternative fuel hassle free. The parts involved in this system include:
